Cookson Group Archive and Memories Project

To compliment our work with the Blythe Colours Archive, a meeting has taken place to see if there is enough interest in starting a project focusing on Cookson Group, that was based in Meir.

As Johnson Matthey merged with Cookson to form Cookson Matthey Ceramics in 1994, some material is included in the Blythe Colours archive, but doesn't cover any of smaller companies that formed the original Cookson Group.

Two exhibitions will take place in May 2024, using material from the archive and items owned by former employees.

Conservation work in Cheadle Graveyard

Our group is currently working towards having some conservation work done on the Grade II listed Grosvenor Memorial in he graveyard, this requires permission from both Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and the Lichfield Diocese. The officials of St. Giles the Abbot, are assisting us with gaining the permission required.

At the same time, it's also hoped that we'll be able to check there is no underground damage to the vault of the nearby Griffin Memorial. This work will require separate permission and may be cost prohibitive at this time.

A grant has been secured from the Moorlands Partnership Board to carry out this work, which will now take place in 2024. Some match funding is required for this, which will be raised prior to the work starting.
